Babies who are breastfeed for the first 6 months, have least incidence of ear infections, respiratory illnesses, and bouts of diarrhea.

Breastfeeding has been linked to higher IQ scores in later childhood in some studies. 

It reduces risk of obesity in childhood.

Having said all that, breast milk is most often called liquid gold. 

The journey of breast feeding includes,initiation of feeding within first half an hour in case of any mode of delivery, sometimes if mother has received general anesthesia, then have to wait for few hours and continuing exclusive breastfeed for first 6 months and followed along with complementary feeds thereafter.
